INVESTIGATIVE CHEMISTRY

The knowledge and experience that we have been able to build up over the past decades with regard to chemical and physical properties of raw materials, semi-finished products and products, in combination with professional knowledge in the field of analytical and physical chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology form the basis of the NEDLAB Investigative Chemistry unit.

Investigating the root cause in case of:

  • transport and storage related incidents
  • properties
  • contaminants
  • pollution
  • damage
  • degradaation
  • spill
  • failure
  • forensics

The research process usually starts on the basis of a free preliminary investigation, you provide as much information as possible with regard to the experienced problems (event, products, process, etc.) possibly supported by a quantity of the relevant material. Of course it is also possible that one of our specialists will visit you on location to be able to take a look at the problem.

Based on the information provided or collected in combination with a free preliminary investigation, we draw up a completely non-binding offer. After your agreement, we will start the research.

The research consists of the following parts:

  • Visual examination of materials supported by photography and microscopic photography
  • Numerous laboratory studies using an extensive range of laboratory techniques such as: gas and liquid chromatography (GC and HPLC), mass spectrometry (MS), Infrared spectrometry (FT-IR with ATR), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDX), optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), UV-vis spectrometry, ion chromatigraphy (IC and CIC), SEM-EDX*, TGA*, DSC*  and numerous physical techniques such as density, viscosity, melting or pour point, boiling point, boiling ranges and numerous separation techniques such as fractional distillation, particle size distribution (sieve testing), filtration, freezing and extractions.
  • literature review
  • deskresearch
  • extensive reporting including conclusion and possible recommendations

The findings are discussed with you as a client because our view is refreshing with regard to your processes.
